Are We Alone...or Nah?

Do you ever think we are the only planet with life? What if there are others just like us? What sounds scarier being alone or facing what's in the unknown? Many people already know about the Mars rover on Mars. NASA had it roaming around trying to find any living life on Mars. There even has been evidence of life on Jupiter's moon Europa before an ice age which took over the moon.

What if we were able to look beyond our solar system? Would we find 1000's of planets like Earth, or is it just full of uninhabited planets. Hopefully in the near future we will be able to learn more about this vast universe we are just a small part of.

Here is a link that gives more information about what we are trying to learn. http://www.theguardian.com

So the question is are we alone.. or nah?

A Big Dip into Constellations

Hello we are BCLR and we are going to talk to you about some Constellations. There are many different types of constellations, the most known is the Big Dipper. Even though most people believe The Big Dipper is a Constellation by itself, it is actually part of the Constellation Ursa Major. It is also known as the Big Bear.

The Big Dipper consists of seven stars, making it easy to find in the sky. Even though you would think it's easiest to see at night it is actually more visual in the early morning or early evening. The Big Dipper's handle has three stars and is the most easiest part of the constellation to find. The Handle of The Big Dipper is the tail of the Ursa Constellation.

Sea Creatures

Sea Creatures

There are many different types of fish. Here are four very cool fish; the clown fish, the rainbow trout fish, the puffer fish and the angel fish.

The clown fish was used in the famous movie "Finding Nemo". It has three stripes, two orange and one white, with black outlining.

The rainbow trout fish is a fish that lives only in freshwater. It is white with black spots all over and a pink stripe down the middle/side of the fish.

The puffer fish only lives in warm, coastal waters. There are many different color puffer fish but, the most popular are grey, yellow, blue, white and brown.

The freshwater angel fish only lives in warm/cool water. It is black with blue and yellow stripes.

Physical Science with Chemicals!

Not all molecules can be together. They repel each other. Electrons have a negative charge. If you had a particle with more electrons than protons then you will get an ion.  Particles like this will repel each other because a negative charge repels another negative charge.

Here is an image:

Next post we do will be a video of us doing an experiment demonstrating molecules that don't go together.
Here is the step by step process of the experiment we will be doing next post we blog:  http://www.sciencekids.co.nz/experiments/oilandwater.html

Gravity: You think you know it.

We all know exactly what the force of gravity is, or do we? Gravity is classically defined as an attraction between any two physical objects of a particular mass. Discovered by Sir Isaac Newton in 1687, the mathematician explained his findings in his book Principia. This article might help clear up any misconceptions you may have about gravity.

Spinosaurus: The Ultimate Hunter

This is my personal ideas and opinions on why Spinosaurus was the ultimate predator and why I think that the Spinosaurus vs T-Rex fight in Jurassic Park III was FAIR. 1st of all, Spinosaurus had a definite size advantage, being 55-60 feet long. It also had a deadly set of claws on its hands, being a class Spinosauridae, all of its species having the giant claw on the first didgit. The claws would help in more of a self defense against another attacking animal. Spinosaurus also had a Crocodile-like skull, having two rows on the top jaw and two on the bottom both lined with crocodile like teeth. There is also evidence and solid facts about this animal being a swimmer, possibly waiting for an unwary animal walking to the waters edge, and the Spinosaurus launching itself  out of the water like modern alligators and crocodiles. This hunting ability would give it a huge advantage, also it being able to eat fish and marine life if larger food sources were scarce.

The fight between the Spinosaurus and T-Rex in Jurassic Park III was fair, just because the fact that the T-Rex didn't have a full jaw-lock on the Spinosaurus' neck. When the Spinosaurus wedged itself out of the T-Rex's grasp. After clawing the T-Rex in the rib cage, making the T-Rex losing much blood and stamina, the Spinosaurus whipped around ad twisted the T-Rex's Neck, breaking the spinal cord and killing the T-Rex.

Welcome to the Raider Science Blog!

Hello class! This is the first post on our new science blog. I created the blog at Starbucks on Tuesday afternoon before heading to work at my second job.

Blogging is easy, it is fun, and it's something that I hope you will find useful in your everyday life.

Starting a blog is easy and the benefits are enormous. You can post about anything that interests you and you can even earn some money from doing it as well.

But for class purposes, let's stick to science, shall we?

For class tomorrow, I'd like to design the blog and get you all signed up as authors as well as give you all a quick rundown on how to use blogger. It's actually quite simple and is comparable to using Google Docs.

Until tomorrow!

Mr. Streble

P.S. Check out this awesome video of two dinosaurs fighting!
